Torture Cancer Visits City of Hope Medical Center

thumb_city-of-hope-ceo-resized-for-websiteThe David Benzer Torture Cancer Foundation was invited to tour the City of Hope Medical Research and Treatment Center in Duarte, CA in April. Founded 100 years ago, the City of Hope focuses exclusively on research and treatment of Cancer, Aids, and Diabetes. City of Hope is recognized worldwide for its compassionate patient care, innovative science and translational research, which rapidly turns laboratory breakthroughs into promising new therapies.

City of Hope is recognized worldwide for its compassionate patient care, innovative science and translational research, which rapidly turns laboratory breakthroughs into promising new therapies.

City of Hope is one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). An independent biomedical research, treatment and education institution, they are a leader in the fight to conquer cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.

The tour was an inspiring reminder of the power of hope to help patients stay strong and positive in their fight. City of Hope embodies their name throughout the organization.

City of Hope Golf Tournament

A foursome of David Benzer, Deborah Robertson, David Dadian, and Jeff Tamelier supported the fundraising event on behalf of Torture Cancer. In addition, the Foundation provided a number of items auctioned at the tournament dinner to benefit City of Hope. City of Hope, located in Duarte, CA is recognized worldwide for its compassionate patient care, innovative science and translational research, which rapidly turns laboratory breakthroughs into promising new therapies.

PAL Golf Tournament

thumb_david-foursome-pal-tournament-2013For the past three years the Torture Cancer Foundation has supported the Police Athletic League (PAL) by participating in their annual Golf Tournament and providing auction items for the foundation. Held at TPC Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco on May 16, 2013, this year’s Torture Cancer foursome were Samer Zarour, David Benzer, John, and David Benzer. The San Francisco PAL builds community by organizing youth sports and healthy activities that deveop personal character and foster positive relationships amoung police officers, youth, and dedicated volunteers.

Pacific Transportation Annual Sports Luncheon

thumb_david-at-the-podium-pta-luncheonDavid was invited to speak at the Pacific Transportation Association’s (PTA) Annual Sports Luncheon on March 21, 2013 at L’Olivier Restaurant in San Francisco. Founded in 1920, the Pacific Transportation Association’s objective is to study transportation issues, to foster cooperation and understanding between shippers and carriers, and to assist in developing and maintaining efficient and economical transportation services to benefit the community at large. Additionally they donate to charitable associations and support a number of causes.

Over 80 members of the association listened to David’s talk about his life in sports television and how he formed the Torture Cancer Foundation to address the fear inherent in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Many of the members expressed interest in supporting the Foundation and participating in future events.
